What is facial redness?
Facial redness is a general appearance of diffuse redness, such as rosy cheeks. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an appearance of general redness, not discrete, well-defined vessels. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead, and cheeks. Facial redness is often associated with spider veins, rosacea, and other vascular lesions and is most frequently caused by sun damage.
What are vascular lesions?
Vascular lesions are classified into two groups: vascular tumors and malformations. At Radiance Medical Spa, we treat benign vascular malformations, including birthmarks, spider veins, and rosacea. Vascular birthmarks are usually found in infants and children and are caused by clusters of blood vessel growths. Vascular malformations, such as birthmarks, are a cosmetic concern only. They are not life-threatening and remain stable throughout a person’s life.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins (also known as telangiectasias) are smaller, blue, red, or purple vessels that appear twisted like a spiderweb. They are commonly found on the legs and face, but they can appear anywhere on the body. When your blood vessels break, your veins can enlarge and dilate beneath the skin’s surface. Age, changes in weather, increased sun exposure, pregnancy, injuries, rosacea, genetics, and heavy alcohol consumption can all cause broken blood vessels.
There are no symptoms associated with spider veins, but many people still wish to remove them for aesthetic reasons.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a fairly common skin condition that causes facial redness, pimple-like breakouts, and easy blushing or facial flushing. There is no cure for rosacea, but aesthetic treatments can help to control and reduce the signs and symptoms.
What causes visible veins to appear on the face?
Visible blood vessels on the face are often embarrassing and can impact self-esteem. Many different factors contribute to the appearance of abnormal veins on the face. Some of the most common causes include:
- Prolonged sun exposure
- Age
- Facial injuries
- Certain medical conditions
UV rays from the sun cause collagen to break down, which results in facial veins, especially among people with lighter skin. As we get older, our skin gets thinner, and our veins weaken. A facial injury or even scrubbing your face too hard can break small veins and cause them to enlarge.
